ELVIS MEETS NIXON isn't one of those plays that takes itself too seriously. It was never meant to. It's a bizarre little one-act that really started out as an experiment. When I wrote it, I purposely decided to let the story and dialogue go wherever it wanted. If it turned into something ridiculous, all the better! And of course, that's exactly what happened. Pantsless Presidents. Alien Invaders. Operation Wiggle. When it was finished, I filed it away in a drawer with all of my potential "Twilight Zone" episodes, and there it stayed...for about ten years. Then one day, as these stories go, I was looking through some of my older plays, trying to find a one-act with a small cast, that would be appropriate for a college audience and there it was, ELVIS MEETS NIXON. It fit the criteria. But was it any good? I took it out and read it, and surprisingly...yes, it was! Ok, to be honest, it wasn't Eugene O'Neill. But it was pretty witty, in a ridiculous sort of way. Not only that, but it played pretty well on stage too!
