Carey Scott Wilkerson was a dramatist, poet, performing-theorist, and the author of numerous plays, including Seven Dreams of Falling (Black Box Theatre Publishing Company), Divanalysis (with C. Stephen Foster, also from Black Box Theatre Publishing Company), and Ariadne in Exile. He wrote the libretti for The Ariadne Songs (with composer Angela Schwickert), The Rescue (a retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, also with Angela Schwickert), Eddie Stone's Song: Odyssey of the First Pasaquoyan (with composer James Ogburn), and an operatic adaptation of The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (with composer Robert Chumbley). He wrote three books of poetry, Threading Stone and Ars Minotaurica (New Plains Press), and Cruel Fever of the Sky (Negative Capability Press). His Primer for the Minotauric Arts was published by The Chapbook journal, and his e-chapbook Polylogue was published by E-ratio. He was a winner of a Lillian E. Smith Writers Fellowship, was a Visiting Writer at Clayton State University and the University of South Alabama, and a Guest Artist at the University of Mississippi. He received his MFA from Queens University of Charlotte, and his PhD from Georgia State University. He was a Core Faculty member in Reinhardt University's Low-residency MFA Creative Writing program, and an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Columbus State University. He was a fierce advocate for indie theatre and a huge supporter of everyone. Mr. Wilkerson passed away in July of 2024, but his writing and his art will live on.
